VINTAGE TRUE BURLESQUE TELLS ALL THE GLAMOUR THAT WAS NEVER THERE! MOBSTERS, SMOKE-FILLED DUMPS AND LIVING OUT OF A TRUNK. LET'S DANCE!
The Half and Half Dance Diane and the Devil or Satan makes her Strip Diane Parker and Puppet True Burlesque
The Half and Half Burlesque Dance.
There are several techniques of the "Half and Half" dance. One uses a dummy. You've seen them on entertainment variety shows (when television had them) as some lonely fellow comes out with a woman on a stick which he manipulates to make it appear he has a dance partner. You will see this act still on street corners near tourist sites. Police tolerate him until the crowd gets too large, then he picks up his puppet, his sock hat full of coins and moves to another block.
A related version, once common in sideshows and vaudeville, is a fellow made up as a woman on half of his body, and, well…made up as a man on the other. He twirls around giving the impression, once again…that he is not lonely.
Here is stripper Diane Parker and her friend the devil. A giant satan puppet as it were. Diane pretends to be a damsel in distress while the audience gasps…for about one second, then they tire of the gag and start yelling for the dancer to "take it off" which is what they paid for, not a devil costume.
Through the magic of a stripper with her arm in a costume, Satan here is about to stab her in the heart.
